User Experience Matters

As our industry matures, we are starting to see a cataclysmic change in how we work within each of our fields. Information architecture, interaction design, visual design, usability, accessibility, content, and marketing are colliding to form a better and more valuable user experience.

Interaction is no longer an afterthought, overshadowed by visual design. "Just getting noticed" on the web is no longer sufficient - what you produce will now be judged by the value of your information and the ease of your experience. Today, users reign supreme.

Now's the time to ask the tough questions: Are you properly investing resources, energy, and time in your user experience? Do you really, like really, know what your users want and need? How are you planning for the future?

In this presentation, we'll explore the seven characteristics of good user experience, where technology and innovation are taking the interactive industry, and what milestones we'll pass along the way.

What will I get of this session?
* A sense of where user experience is headed
* Knowledge of how context impacts the user experience
* An understanding of how new technologies are changing both context and user experience

Who should attend?
* User experience professionals
* Marketing executives and managers
* Online community managers
* Web designers and web developers
* Others who want to learn about user experience design

    Does anyone have any questions they really want my presentation to address for them? We will do Q&A at the end and even during, but if there is some specifics you'd like to see covered.. speak up NOW and I will be sure to address them! :D

Who attended?

  • 92 attendees
    •  The first half of the presentation, comparing websites on various usability metrics, was excellent. The second half, on future gadgetry, while interesting, was not at all helpful to me as a web designer. I would have enjoyed more specific tips or advice.
    •  Sounds like it was a good talk, but traffic kept me away, and by the time I got here the talk was over!!!
    •  Awesome meetup. He was very informative, and helped to show examples with real world data and design.
    •  By far one of the best presentations given at AWDG.
    •  The talk was great. Unfortunately some people still need to be reminded to silence their phones and laptops.

       Interactive and he incorporated a lot of new industry information that was interesting
    •  Great presentation. My only feedback is that maybe the meetup could be posted to start at 6:30 to allow for networking time and the terminally late, and have presentation start at 7.
    •  Nice solid presentation.
    •  great presentation. well structured and delivered
    •  Very well done. Nick's presentation was on point and delivered exactly what I was expecting to see. The examples he used helped illustrate the differences with poor and great UX. I definitely left with a better understanding of UX and how I can relay that into the work with my clients.
    •  Great presentation on the present and future of user experience. Enjoyed the case studies about what works and what doesn't from the user's perspective. I will definitely be using this info in my practice.
    •  I thought it was great how Nick would get started on a topic and just keep going. The presentation with examples was great, and I really enjoyed the Q&A.
    •  Very informative and a great venue for this type of presentation.
    •  This was my first event and I will defiantly be coming back.
    •  This was an excellent and thought-provoking session about just what user experience means to the modern web design team. He was easy to understand and very entertaining.
    •  Great lecture!
    •  Really informative and interesting too! Good Q&A also.
    •  Nick gave a well-thought out presentation and answered questions knowledgeably.
    •  I watched the live stream as I wasn't able to make it to Port. Center. There were about 12 people viewing online, according the status at the bottom of the stream. Quality of stream: Poor Quality of sound: Good Maybe someone can lend a better camera for next time? I wish I would have known that it was going to be streamed and could have saved some cash. Love the idea of streaming these presentations. Nick's Presentation: Good, not great. Same ole content; different speaker. Nick speaks very well, but the content just seemed to be basic. Maybe that was alright for the group, as I'm not sure of the level of expertise of everyone. I was happy that you were able to bring a large name to ATL though. Kudos to the organizers of AWDG for a great job planning this event.
