What? You don't know who Molly is? Google her!

Molly is one of the Web industries true heavyweights. She is one of the founders of the Web Standards Project, has worked with Microsoft, Mozilla, and Opera to bring standards compliant browsers to market, evangelized Web standards the world over, has written over 35 books on Web design, and carries one of the most influential voices regarding the evolution of the Web. She truly is an icon of our industry.

Her talk: All About the Browser, Baby

As we work to create effective Web sites, embrace Web standards, and hone our skill, there's one constant element that keeps our work on edge: The Web browser.

Whether a simple text browser on a terminal such as Lynx or a full desktop suite such as Opera, the evolution of browsers as the primary piece of interpretive software is an area often overlooked. This causes more problems for designers and developers, largely because when inconsistencies and problems occur, blame is then pointed at a given technology like CSS, or a specific browser, or worse yet, oneself.

While all of these are factors, understanding how browsers work, what their unique quirks and strengths are, and how to embrace the browser as your primary tool can help you reduce frustration, time debugging, and significantly increase our understanding of why our jobs are so darned challenging.

More About Molly

Having achieved a modicum of balance after her midlife crisis, Molly decided to finally get a job. She is now a Web Evangelist focusing on developer relations for the upstart Norwegian browser company, Opera Software. Earlier in life, Molly avoided a regular job including those silly start-up ventures and chose instead to write a lot of books and articles and stuff on Web standards, and talk a lot about them, too. She now avoids the former, while the latter is an ongoing inevitability. To learn more about Molly and her evangelical work, you can check out her blog at http://molly.com/... or interact with her on Twitter @mollydotcom. Better yet, come have a chat F2F!

IMPORTANT: We will be meeting at the Art Institute instead of the Portfolio Center for this one. Location details are above.

It's only 2 weeks away so RSVP now to reserve your seat.

Note: You can also RSVP with Paypal if you don't have an Amazon Payments account.

Design Feedback and Open Q&A
After the presentation we will take some time for anyone in the group to get feedback on a project they are working on. Whether it's a design comp, programming question, business plan, user interface decision, or any other web design question – just ask the group and we will do our best to help. Greg will also be available to answer your Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Illustrator questions.

Post Meetup Mixer
Be sure to join us at immediately after the event for networking, food, and fun. The location of the mixer is undecided, we are looking for a venue near the Art Institute (send a suggestion if you have one).

Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.

Thanks!

- J.

I am really looking forward to this meeting! This goes right up my alley as I used to frequently help others solve cross-browser display issues (and I've also been using the Opera browser as my primary browser for several years.)
